Today is World Smile day. Now if you know me in real life you’ll know that I do, in general like to be happy 99% of the time.
In the last year it was sometimes difficult to think of a reason to smile, but believe me, even in the darkest of moments there can be a reason to smile.
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate World Smile day than to share some of the things that really make me smile.
1. This Picture
It is not often we get a group shot but this one, well it just sums us up really. Silly faces, always laughing and just all completely involved in the moment.
This is the background on my phone and I honestly smile each time I see it.
I can’t be the only person that smiles to themselves randomly in the day? For me that smile usually comes from a memory. It could be something that happened that day or 20 years ago but if my mind slips back to it, it will most definitely raise a smile.
Just thinking about it makes me smile. I can’t think of a single thing I don’t love about Christmas. From the shopping, to the decorations, the food, the lights, the smells, all these things make Christmas and have me grinning from ear to ear!
It goes without saying that a visit to Disneyland will make me smile but it is all that Disney is that truly brings a smile to my face.
It has true happiness and magic running through the heart of it and I love the feeling it brings with it. Sharing with the children is one of my favourite things to do. Watching their eyes light up is guaranteed to make me smile.
Again though, it evokes memories for me of being a child and standing in line at the theatre to watch the Little Mermaid for the first time and dancing along to the Sing-A-Long videos we had.
5. The Sea
I don’t hide my dislike of a sandy beach well, so this may seem like a total contradiction…
But I adore the sea. Thinking about the sound of the sea and the smell of salt in the air has me smiling instantly. I could watch the waves rolling for hours, all the time grinning like an idiot.
I am a little old school when it comes to photo’s. OK so I hardly ever use a real camera anymore but I do regularly make sure I get photo’s printed.
I make scrapbooks with them, I put pictures in frames all over the house and I love sitting down and going through them time and time again. I know I could do this with my phone but there is something special about holding a picture in your hand. What can I say? Nostalgia makes me smile.
A few years ago, if you’d told me that a coffee would make me smile, I’d of laughed at you (Kind of a smile I guess!)
Flash forward and now good coffee is one of life’s pleasures. I don’t discriminate against my coffee, I like a wide range, various flavours and I have no preference on coffee shop brands. I take them all.
Sitting alone, cradling a cup a Joe at home or in a coffee shop will make me smile, and putting the worlds to right over a steaming cappuccino with a friend is bound to put a smile on my face and curled up on a Sunday morning while refereeing the children or overseeing homework with a large coffee in my favourite mug will make my face stretch as wide as it can and my heart sing.
So yeah coffee really makes me smile.
8. Being silly
Life can be hard sometimes, we have to be adult and responsible so much of the time that it is hard to remember to stop being the grown up for a minute.
I love nothing more than being silly and a little mischievous. If an opportunity presents itself, I will always take it. Like the ‘Sausage importer’ sign we spotted in Bakewell, too good a pun to pass up on. Or watching my Dad and F being silly together, or spending half an hour creating silly snapchats together. My favourite is laughing until you need to pee and your face hurts from smiling.
Those moments are priceless.
I think its clear to most by now that I am a HUGE fan of the cooler months and yes, I might have been known to occasionally moan about the heat, So again this might be a little conflicting, but …
The Sunshine makes me smile. It doesn’t matter if it Spring, Summer, Winter or Autumn, a hint of sunshine in the sky will never fail to raise a smile from me.
Sunshine brings hope of a good day, maybe better times to come and you know what I really love about it? Everything looks better in the sunshine.
For a huge music lover, I have not really ever talked about it on my blog.
I adore music, I love going to watch live bands, I can’t drive without music on, some of my earliest memories feature music in some form and I fall in love with songs every single day.
There is something so wonderful about singing out loud, windows down in the car and the sun shining to make my soul smile!
And that’s it, just a small round up of the things that make me smile. Of course there are so many things that make me smile, my family, friends, achievements, good TV and seeing other people smile and then probably a million more things.
I really think smiling is my favourite thing!
What makes you smile? Can you always find something to smile about, even when things are not so great?
